Thousands of students and their families are keenly awaiting the publication of the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) exam results as Sri Lanka moves into the new academic year. Officially, the Department of Examinations has said that following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April 2025, they intend to release the results.

A Nation on Balance

For Sri Lankan students, the GCE A/L test—which runs from November 25 to December 31, 2024—determines their eligibility for university admissions and shapes their future employment paths, so marking a turning point. The wait for the results has caused both parents’ and students’ increasing expectation and anxiety.

Amith Jayasundara, Commissioner General of Examinations, responded to these issues by saying that several phases of the evaluation process guarantee accuracy and fairness. He underlined that the department wants the outcomes available by the end of April 2025.

Looking ahead: Modifications in the schedule of examinations

In a major change, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha revealed intentions to reschedule the A-Level tests to September beginning in 2025 This change seeks to simplify the academic calendar and give students a more ordered framework for their education. (hirunews.lk)
