Addressing the delays in the distribution of the Mahapola Scholarship Grant to university students, a crucial debate was conducted today in the Isurupaya Education Ministry under the auspices of Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education.
Short-term steps to reduce 2025 grant award delays for first-year students and plans to guarantee uninterrupted stipend payments to students from other academic years were the main topics of discussion.
The necessity of a long-term modernisation strategy, which includes improving the computerised data system for Mahapola scholarship recipients, was also underlined by Dr. Seneviratne. The goal of this project is to make the grant distribution process more transparent and efficient.
Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), as well as senior representatives from the Mahapola Trust Fund and the UGC, participated in the conversation.
